This professional development will cover the physiological understanding of the metabolic system as it relates to infectious disease, with a particular focus on COVID-19. The role of 3 comparative skeletal muscles and their relation to systemic oxygenation will be discussed. The presentation will also focus on the role of home health occupational therapy practitioners and other clinicians in maximizing systemic oxygenation to restore a client’s occupational performance.

    • distinguish the role of the home health occupational therapy practitioners and other clinicians in reducing inflammation/maximizing oxygenation/restoring ADL performance.

      Chris Byrd, OTR/L MPH

      Chris is an occupational therapist with over 20 years experience and a master's of public health. He has a passion for bringing research cohesively together to support clinicians in applying evidence-based practice into their own daily experiences. His primary clinical focus has been in acute care and long-term care.  After treating COVID-19 patients in acute care, Chris recognized the limited oxidative muscle capacity his patients experienced and aimed to provide more in-depth physiology and daily activty information to his colleagues across the nation.
