There are over 12,000 published articles on the benefits of mindfulness in a wide range of clinical contexts. Research has shown benefits in reducing anxiety, reducing emotional reactivity, promoting self-awareness and self-compassion and improving communication. Research has shown that mindfulness training significantly reduced 2 of 3 indicators of burnout in participating nurses as compared to controls. By the end of this educational activity the learner will be able to:
• Explain the range of mindfulness practices for daily use to minimize stress
• Teach how to communicate with increased awareness and empathy
• Recognize negative patterns of reactivity triggered by stress and utilize mindfulness to develop alternative responses to stress
• Describe mindfulness practices to utilize in self-care and cultivate resiliency

Lesley Williams, MSN, RN,CTTS
Lesley is a mindfulness teacher and consultant. She attended professional training with Jon Kabat Zinn and has had extensive training through the Marcus Institute of Integrative Health Myrna Brind Center for Mindfulness. She offers a variety of mindfulness-based services in areas of stress management, substance abuse, health care, self-care and resiliency and behavioral change. Lesley is a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist and holds a senior adjunct faculty position in the Nursing Program at Montgomery County College.
