The purpose of this activity is to provide the learner with information on the disease process and skills or techniques used to manage these clients at home.
By the end of this educational activity the learner will be able to:

Alyson Bolton, RN, CPN
Alyson Bolton has been a nurse for 35 years, in hospital, long term, subacute and the home care settings. She has most recently worked in home care as a field nurse then Clinical Manager before accepting her current role as Transitional Care Manager, helping transition children safely from the hospital setting to the comfort of their homes. From working at a long term care facility for multiply disabled individuals to her role as Clinical Manager, she has a strong background in caring for and managing children with various types of neuromuscular diseases including SMA types 1 and 2. She spent 8 years working at Children's Specialized Hospital with newly diagnosed children with SMA as well as newly trach and vented children where she spent much of her time with family teaching. She has extensive experience with much of the respiratory equipment used to support these children including cough assist, BIPAP, chest PT vest therapy as well as trach and ventilator support. She had been primary nurse for several children with SMA type 1 and likes to think she had enhanced the quality of their lives when caring for them.
