Learning Objectives
By the end of this educational activity the learner will be able to:
- summarize the history of Home Care Nursing – how it started, how it evolved and what it is like today
- describe a typical home care patient and the Home Care Nurse’s role in taking care of that patient – case studies will be used to achieve this objective
- understand some of the most common misconceptions about the profession of Home Care Nursing

Olga Silva, BSN, RN, CSLI, QP
After more than 25 years of nursing, Olga Silva has experienced many sides of home healthcare. From working as a CNA to being a bed side nurse in both the adult and pediatric fields, Olga has developed an extensive healthcare resume. She has helped clients with tracheostomies, mechanical ventilation, infusion therapies and wound dressings all while functioning as a case manager, teacher and even a recipient of services for her mother.
