The purpose of this activity is to provide the learner with the ability to identify and manage behavioral and cognitive changes of the Dementia client.

Criteria for Successful Completion of Activity to claim CE Certificate

Live Classroom:

  • Attend planned length of activity missing no more than 10 minutes
  • Validation by CE Administration of attendance via sign-in sheet 
  • You will receive an email, after 1-2 business days, prompting you to complete an evaluation on
  • Evaluation must be completed within 1 month of event before course expires

Learning Objectives

By the end of this educational activity the learner will be able to:

  • Recognize the demographics of the disease, who is effected and the effects on the family unit
  • Define dementia and cognitive changes
  • Recognize cognitive and physical changes that complicate ADL care and identify techniques to assist with ADLs
  • Define verbal and nonverbal communication and describe strategies for successful communication
  • Identify common, challenging and potentially harmful behaviors and describe interventions used in responding to these behaviors
  • Describe the fundamentals of facilitation
  • Strengthen current facilitator skills and behaviors
  • Develop new facilitator skills and behaviors

Lauren Hirsh, LCSW

Lauren Hirsch has worked in the home health care field for 7 years in multiple roles supporting a number of different service lines of home care. She received her masters in Social Work from New York University in 2011 and is currently a practicing clinician. She has worked to support the development of the dementia program curriculum and criteria at BAYADA.

Laurel Trice, RN, BSN

Laurel Trice has worked with Bayada since 1991 in various clinical support roles.  Her experience prior to BAYADA was primarily in home health care, providing or supervising care to medicare recipients.  Since September 2013 she has been the Director of Clinical Operations for the Adult Assistive Care Practice, and the Dementia Program was one of the first programs she joined to help develop the program.

Kristin Kingery, RN, BSN

Kristin is a licensed social worker in the state of PA and practices geriatric social work in several settings for over 20 years.  During that time she focused her career and personal time on learning about and assisting people who are suffering with Alzheimer's Disease and their caregivers. As a Social Worker and Manager she has researched and developed over 25 hours of training material to assist professional and family caregivers better understand and care for those with Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia    Kristin has been a volunteer for the Alzheimer's Association for over 30 years, chaired the Philadelphia Walk to End Alzheimer's for 7 years and lead the initiative to have this dementia training developed and rolled out to BAYADA employees.
