In this session a dietician/diabetic educator, will use the principles of AADE7 Self Care Behaviors® to discuss methods of assessing, monitoring, and impacting care of the client with diabetes.

    Criteria for Successful Completion of Activity to Claim CE Certificate

    • accurately identify acceptable ranges of blood sugar control for adult clients who have uncontrolled diabetes
    • correctly describe three steps for teaching diabetic clients symptom self-control
    • list at least three appropriate physical activity recommendations for a client case scenario with uncontrolled diabetes
    • given the findings of an evaluation of a home health client, the learner will incorporate three strategies to improve medication adherence, based on patient specific abilities
    • list four ADA nutrition recommendations for clients with diabetes

    • list six effects of chronic stress on a person’s physical health
    • list at least three self-awareness strategies to manage stress triggers in the learner’s career role
    • integrate three methods of reducing cortisol levels into daily routines
    • distinguish the effectiveness of the Mediterranean diet on personal long term goals

    Javier is the owner and operator of Southern AZ Nutrition Consultants, LLC. He is a Registered & Licensed Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator with sixteen years of clinical and managerial experience. Javier has a background in developing and managing patient education programs, delivering presentations, counseling patients and family members, and consulting for providers in diabetes management in and around the healthcare setting. He has worked hard to become an exceptional teacher and communicates concepts in a clear and concise manner. 

    Barb Bancroft, RN, MSN, PNP

    Barb has provided more than 2500 continuing education events on topics pertaining to pathophysiology, physical assessment, and pharmacology to health care professionals throughout the United States and Canada. She has been the motivational keynote speaker on health maintenance topics for numerous nursing associations as well as for corporate groups and events. She has held faculty positions at the University of Virginia, the University of Arkansas, Loyola University of Chicago, and St. Xavier University of Chicago. She has provided courses on advanced pathophysiology, pharmacology and physical assessment to graduate and undergraduate students. Barb is a fascinating and highly informative speaker whose dynamic presentation style makes learning enjoyable. She provides a wealth of clinical information that can be applied to daily practice.
