BALANCED IN MOTION APRIL 2022: The Science Behind Falls Prevention Recorded Video
This course will include the evidence in the literature to support the importance of assessing and treating all systems of balance, including the Vestibular system, and a deep dive into evidence-based tests and measures, differential diagnosis, and patient -centered treatment approach to the specific deficits and functional impairments, to achieve optimum outcomes.
Attendees will obtain a working understanding of the vital role of the Vestibular system and sensory integration on the complexity of balance rehab and will be able to differentially diagnose and treat for “dizziness” vs. vertigo and non-vertigo dizziness, and incorporate Vestibular Rehab into their tool kit of knowledge for reducing falls and injuries from falls among older homebound adults.
The course is divided into 2 separate classes: complete the recorded webinar “The Science Behind Fall Prevention” as a prerequisite for attending the live webinar on “Vestibular Assessment, Differential Diagnosis and Rehab.”

- Complete Part I post-test with a passing score > 80%
- Complete Part I course evaluation

Introductory Education Level: Information geared to clinicians with little or no knowledge of the subject. Focus is on providing general introductory information.
By the end of this activity the learner will be able to:
- identify contributing factors to fall risk.
- describe the current fall prevention programs for community dwelling older adults.
- assess and identify evidence-based treatment interventions based on assessment findings to reduce fall risks and improve function.

Linda Teodosio, PT, DScPT, COS-C
Dr. Linda Teodosio is a Physical Therapist who has specialized in rehabilitation of older adults, for the past 32 years. She has extensive experience in Home Health Care in Maryland, as a clinical leader for various home health agencies, and is currently a Division Rehab Manager with Bayada Home Health.
She has developed several multidisciplinary clinical programs for the treatment of older adults, and has presented many CEU events throughout Maryland, to educate both professionals and clients in the fundamentals of aging in place, fall prevention, Vestibular Rehabilitation, and caring for those with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Dr. Teodosio developed a Fall prevention program which included education of all therapists in a large non-profit, community-based home health agency, which resulted in a 30% sustained reduction in overall fall rates and falls with major injury.
In 2011, Linda earned a terminal doctoral degree in Physical Therapy, from the University of Maryland PTRS, where she completed a capstone in Vestibular Rehab. She has held several community leadership positions and is currently a Board Member of the Maryland National Home Care Association, and the American Physical Therapy Association, Home Health Section.
